Mahesh Kumar assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at ADE in September 2020. In this capacity, he spearheads the strategic efforts to convert AirAsia's Engineering division into a prominent Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) service provider within the region. Leveraging his academic background in Aeronautical Engineering, Mahesh leads the charge in utilizing data and technology to drive this transformation, catering to the needs of commercial airlines operating in the area.
Before his appointment as CEO, Mahesh held the position of Head of Fleet & Technical Asset Management at AirAsia. During this tenure, he successfully facilitated two significant aircraft portfolio agreements with BBAM and Castlelake LP, amounting to a combined value of US$3.6 billion. These achievements earned AirAsia esteemed accolades, including the 2018 Air Finance Journal Award and the 2019 APAC Airline Economics Award.
In 2015, Mahesh's expertise led to his appointment as the pioneering Senior Vice President, Technical, at Asia Aviation Capital Limited. This newly established entity served as AirAsia's aircraft leasing arm, further showcasing his instrumental role within the organization.
Mahesh joined AirAsia's Engineering department in 2009, marking the beginning of his involvement in numerous engineering ventures. Notable contributions include his participation in key projects such as the identification and selection of aircraft and engine types, the establishment of AirAsia India Engineering, and the transformation of Zest Airways into AirAsia Philippines.
