Ireland’s Ambassador to Singapore, Sarah McGrath is a career diplomat with over 20 years’ experience in the Irish foreign service and is currently serving as Ireland’s Ambassador to Singapore. She presented her credentials to President Halimah Yacob on 30 August 2022. Ambassador McGrath is also responsible for Ireland's relations with Brunei Darussalam.
Aviation is an important sector for Ireland given its status as an island nation. Ireland has been a significant aviation finance industry hub since the mid-1970s and today is internationally renowned as the leading location for aircraft leasing with more than 50 % of the world’s commercial aircraft are owned or managed from Ireland and 9 of the top 10 lessors with operations there. Ireland is home to a thriving ecosystem of 250 aviation and aerospace companies that spans all aspects of the sector, from maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) to simulation training.
Ambassador McGrath is from County Clare in the mid-west of Ireland – which is the home of Shannon Airport where duty free shopping was first introduced to the world in the 1940s. She graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law from University College Cork in 2001. She is an alumnus of the US State Department International Visitor Leadership Programme (2019) and has a strong interest in peacebuilding, gender equality, economic development and the role of small states in shaping the multilateral system. Since arriving in Singapore she has been engaged with the Women in Aviation Singapore chapter including as a panellist at their Sustainable Aviation Forum earlier this year.
